Life and its lessons (12)
A story tale
Once upon a time in a wide life sanctuary lived a rescued cub. The baby lion lived a comfortable life with food available in intervals, placed in a cozy setting and kind volunteers stroking and cuddling him. He got visitors on weekends where his every move was appreciated with loud applauds and smiles. As the Lion grew it was time for him to be released into the natural wildlife habitat. The lion was happy to see the vast fields and hear the sounds of nature, but he met with adverse circumstances. He had to learn through the struggles of the jungle, to hunt for food, adapt to the weather and know the difference between a friend and a foe. Through time he survived and emerged to become his true natural calling “King of the Jungle”. My lesson, we all have our callings in life and its only when we come out of the comfort zone of the sanctuary and go through the struggles, betrayals and pains of this world will we emerge to our natural state as “Kings of our own jungle”.
Advice
In my dealings I see myself in some situations giving advice, solutions and a means to a way-out - “Do this”, “Why can’t you?” “You will need to”. One of my lessons this year is learning deeper how knowledge does not always equate to action. In my ignorance and sometimes arrogance I judged people with words like “they could have” lingering in my mind until I found myself in situations asking myself- I should have known better. My lesson, words are powerful but implementations of those words into action is hard. No matter how many hours of theoretical training you receive on cooking rice unless you actually cook rice you have not completed the cycle of learning. Our life journey takes us through miles of lows-highs and many pauses for us to grow.
My year in review
- Learning: give myself permission to be human
- Regrets: not saying what I wanted to at the right moment
- Skill enhanced: Patience
- Unexpected: life and its lessons posts
- Unfinished: letting go
- Looking forward InshaAllah: growing connections, hopefully Yasmin Mogahed, modules and implementations.
- To strive for: Consistency and "Being the standard"
Tomorrow’s planning
As I set my plans and l live the gift of life, I wish to live by this quote “I don’t know what tomorrow holds! but I know Who holds tomorrow”
Inspirations
This post inspiration comes from a note I had read on the idea of 'UBUNTU' - in the Xhosa culture it means: "I am because we are". - “An anthropologist proposed a game to the kids in an African tribe. He put a basket full of fruit near a tree and told the kids that whoever got there first won the sweet fruits. When he told them to run they all took each other’s hands and ran together, then sat together enjoying their treats. When he asked them why they had run like that as one could have had all the fruits for himself they said: ''UBUNTU, how can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?''
Until next time Insha’Allah – Cya
