Life and its lessons (13)

My Shield

Strength of a group of ants comes from the multitude of ants standing shoulder to shoulder supporting one another. In life, I have those shields that come in the form of my friends and family. Through time one finds out some whom we thought were shields are actually not and others become stronger as time goes by. My lesson; you alone cannot stand in this world that’s why Allah gave us shields in human form. I thank you all - my shield; that help me through my journey of life as I grow through experience becoming a wiser and stronger version of myself.

Plan B

Without appropriate balance we spend extra tiresome hours in work places, sacrifice our plans and self for others and continue building the dreams of people. It’s hard to see it at the beginning but you are always plan B to most people, companies and organizations – replaceable, a stepping stone, time-bound. My lesson; make yourself your own Plan A. The same and more sacrifices, late hours, commitments made for another’s Plan B; deserves to be made for your own. Always have a balance – Like the saying goes “Never leave yourself for someone else.”

Note to self

Forgive but never forget; as forgetting the lesson puts one at the risk of the same situation repeating itself creating a circle of difficulties.

Retreat

Humans are complex and simple at the same time and one area I have seen this is in what makes us happy. We are at times happy with simple things like playing with sand at the beach and other times dream of traveling and dining in high end restaurants. One lesson I got is on personal retreats, I always thought it is on the complex side requiring travels, loads of money, activities and you can continue the list……... My realization, not much is needed – good company, tea, sleep, time for self and loads of talking can also do the same trick. My lesson; prioritize “self” as it will help you to be a better you for others. Personal self-retreat thought me to be thankful for what I have, see things differently, learn how dots join as lines later in life and most of all deepen my Tawakkul (reliance-on or trust-in) in Allah

Inspirations

It has always been a struggle for me to put into action what I already know and when I read this quote from Yasmin Mogahed page it triggered me once again that action requires work and more work. “You will never find lasting peace until you master this: mental discipline. In other words: your mind should never control you. You must control your mind.”

Until next time Insha’Allah – Cya
