Life and its lessons (24)
Viewpoint;
If I had a chance to try a different job, one of them would be a documentary-film maker. Something about the process - long, detailed, research driven, knowledge giving amazes me. I love watching documentaries to seek information– on politics, wellbeing, cultures, environmental, human anatomy. A well-done documentary is a piece of art with history, context, enlightening and increases social understanding. A recent one that I watched and I recommend is called “13th“ directed by Ava DuVernay. It took her and the amazing team 2 years to do a 100 min documentary (link of the documentary below) – it gives context, knowledge and the story behind the systematic racial inequalities in USA which we can relate to. My lesson from the documentary – we will lose a lot if we only focus on what we currently see/hear happening which represents a small percent of the whole story. Seek context, historic background and information to grow and widen viewpoint.
In association with;
The number “1,000 - Thousand” has different significance for me; one of my favorite songs (A thousand years), a price tag, a quote which I believe in (A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step), monthly revolving fund and expression of love (kun jeer aniga ku jecel). Throughout our lives one item, number, city, car model, food or profession leaves a footprint and impact in your memories. My lesson, one thing can symbolize many experiences which brings back emotions of laughter, hurt and energies. Focus on all of the different symbolization and not only the hurtful ones (which we are inclined to do) – this helps to maintain perspective, heal and manage emotions.
Surprise;
You find a person parked in the middle of the road and when you honk they are surprised, you let go of a friendship after many wrong doings and they are surprised, you ask someone about a promise made and they are surprised, a doctor points out to a person’s bad eating habits and they are surprised continuing with their unhealthy lifestyle and you ask someone to treat people fairly and they look at you surprisingly as if you asked them for a million dollars. It's a surprise that comes from the wrong side. My lesson, try to live a life that is right and if you find yourself on the wrong side of the surprise treat it as a beautiful gift - an opportunity to recheck and redirect oneself.
Note to self;
A poem from an inspired me
To the memories I make - I hold on
To the hurt I felt - I grow strong;
To the journey I start - I move on
To the future I imagine- I hope more
To the travels I move - I pile on
To the friend I thought - I thank more ;
To the closure I found - I learn more
To the starts I know - I love on
To the mountain I climb - I stand tall
To the peace I found - I knee down;
To the path I build - I stay on
To the life I live - I rise on
Inspirations;
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere ……….. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly” - Martin Luther King Jr.
Until next time Insha’Allah – Cya
