Life and its lessons (25)
Supply chains;
When I know more, I do more, and can influence more. Lately (mostly through a documentary called Rotten) I have been exposed to the massive injustices in our supply chains which are also affecting the sustainability of our earth. As consumers we are part of these corrupted systems affecting real people and environments. Even if my negative contribution is 0.1 to the problem imagine if we multiple that with 100 million population size - how big of a problem it turns out.
Many questions popped into my mind - Is the food I eat safe? Do I know its source? How is my health affected by the plastic use? Is a mother suffering in another country because of the kind of shoes I buy? Is my money contributing to wars and civil conflicts around the world? My lesson, its one consumer at a time that can make a change in these massive supply chains. Stop using plastics as much as possible, where possible eat local, choose between 2 companies because of their Human Rights records. We do have a choice and we have seen it possible in the successful BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) Movement working to end international support to Israel occupation. Let’s take control and use our choices, decisions and money wisely.
Revolutions;
In this deep complex country and culture we live in, to solve pressing challenges and issues we need different strategies and personalities that fit those strategies. Revolutions are required to break the silence and complacence to injustices for change to occur. Many talkers and observers of our societies will try to damage the integrity, actions and visions of the change makers who are trying to imprint some positives. In the case of women taking some actions they will be called crazy, western, dealing with PMS, too shy and emotional or too vocal and bold and associated to groups. They forget to talk about the issue at hand and spend hours to degrade and humiliate the personality. Any person whether male, female or a child has a right to talk about, struggle for and demand their God given right from authorities, communities and anyone that has a responsibility and power to implement. My lesson, no struggle for what’s “right” is an easy undertaking. If you care about change concentrate on the issue and solutions around it. And for each one of us trying to take action for the good however small it may be, know that Justice will always prevail. Let’s learn to adapt different strategies to solve our issues. And above all know that we will make mistakes along the way as that is the definition of being human and learn from our journeys.
Note to self;
Keep learning and practicing; When to stand, stay silent, feel, observe and when to charge ahead furiously.
Inspirations;
This posts inspiration is in memory of our Black Panther from Wakanda “Wakanda will no longer watch from the shadows. We can not. We must not. We will work to be an example of how we, as brother and sisters on this earth, should treat each other. Now, more than ever……………” - T'Challa - Chadwick Boseman
Until next time Insha’Allah – Cya
